The Road to Bratislava is long

Change in plans today. Headed out early today as we planned to make two stops along the way to Bratislava.

The first stop was Telc with a picturesque village square. The usual church and castle had an unexpected chapel.

Our second stop was Trebic and a bit disappointing. The Basilica of St. Procopius was closed today and we could not find the UNESCO historic Jewish quarter.

Headed to Brno for a quick bite of lunch. Only had time to stop at one square and do a bit of walking.

The drive to Bratislava had lots of farmland, orchards, vineyards and canola as far as the horizon. They don't have small, disctinctive fields like we have in Canada. The crops go on forever without a fence or break anywhere. At times, it seemed like the sun was only shining on the canola fields, but as you can see from the photos it was a cloudy day today.

When we crossed the border into Slovakia two things happened. The roads improved drastically and the farmland disappeared and was replaced with woodlands. No wonder Aunt Margaret was born in the woods, there was no other place to go!!

Arrived at Bratislva around 7:30 p.m., and found our hotel. It is only a few months old and right next door to a brand NEW MALL!! Lovely hotel with great fitness room and pool area. Can't wait to use it.
