Eduard Krupka, May 7

Ida meets Eduard's son, Vlado. Anne, Eduard, Paul, Ida and Vladimir

After meeting us yesterday, Eduard invited us to visit him at his home in Presov, about 60 km away.

We thought of dropping by on Friday on our way to Budapest.
This morning, we came down to the kitchen and there was Eduard. He really wanted us to visit him and meet his other son, Vladimir (Vlado).
We did some quick time calculations and determined that if we headed out before 10, we could be back in time to meet with the Mayor. So we all took off in two cars, with Zuzanna leading the way.

Eduard lives in a typical apartment built during the Communist occupation. It is a good size apartment with small kitchen, eating area and normal size living/dining area. He also has a small balcony.

He offered a toast to his newly discovered cousin, Ida. He brought out several photo albums showing family life before and after the war. Lots of family weddings at the church in Hniedzne, kids growing up and lots of group outings in the High Tetras. It was clear that this resilient family picked up the pieces pretty quickly and got back to their lives. Their family photos were very similar to any typical Canadian family at that time. Pictures of kids in strollers, babies at christenings, naked babies, fashions for kids and adults looked pretty much the same too, and Christmas trees and family birthdays.

He also shared recent photos of Rudy's two daughters and lots of pictures of his young grandson, Oliver, who is potentially the last male Krupka (at time of posting!). He clearly takes great delight in Oliver.

We headed over to visit his son, Vlado, who lives near the town square, but it was raining and parking was difficult. We decided to skip the Square and grab some lunch before heading back to meet the mayor.

We stopped at a new, traditional restaurant for lunch and Eduard and Vlado joined us there. Vlado brought a small gift for Ida.
